The Burgundys Buffet Story

The Starters

The ‘Burgundys Feast’ starts off with a welcome drink and some papads while you wait for the starters to turn in. A series of chicken dishes come in and all of them taste good. The dragon chicken needs a special mention. Out of the three or four starters, this chicken marvel stood out from the rest. You also get to have to paani pooris on the table and I loved the paani while the pooris were a tad hard. The veg spring roll was brilliant and there wasn’t one dish which you could turn down. The paneer in pastry shells was bland  but passable. Onto the salads counter, you are in for some amazement. There were around 10-15 varieties  and one could simply finish their meal with just salads. One thing that is special about the Burgundys chennai buffet is that many of their salads ( and other dishes too ) are exclusive and they are not like any other XYZ restaurant which just line up carrots, onions and tomatoes in the salad counter. Personally, I loved the long bean and pickled onion, the pesto chicken, the fruit chunks salad and orichetti pasta, which was something I tasted for the first time. The paprika roasted potato salad is bound to tickle your taste buds. Now that I had enough of this ‘healthy & nutritious’ stuff, I had to give cremy beetroot, the zucchini salad and the tossed salad a miss! I’ll probably meet them next time.

A Section of the Salads Spread

The Main Course

The main course counters are segregated according to the cuisine – Asian, North Indian , South Indian, Western Veg and Non Veg, with around 7-10 dishes in each counter. You can imagine the spread of the buffet and this answers the question as to why I call the Burgundys chennai buffet as a feast of the first order!

The Chaat Counter

In the Asian Counter, do not give the chilli paneer and curry veg noodles a miss! In the western veg counter, where I frequented often, I loved the flavor of the pasta with oven roasted tomato. Stuffed mushroom nuggets, vegetable croquettes and roasted potato wedges have become my hot favorites! In the non veg section, I found that my friends loved Mutton Rogan Josh and the Beef Steak. In fact, they say the beef at Burgundys is something special and different. Other hits from this counter were the crumb fried chicken and chicken korma. The biryani was decent enough and the kadai veg and navratna kurma just went out to show that Burgundys is an expert with the classic Indian cuisine too. The Indian breads ( roti, naan, kulcha) were pretty good and soft. You also get to have the chaats and pizzas along with the main course. The pizzas came right out of the oven and the crust was brilliant and the cheese was fresh! The dahi poori was great mainly because of the dahi (thick and fresh). Other outstanding dishes in the Indian counter were the palak paneer and baby corn and mushroom. Overall, it is a fulfilling main course and I’m sure you are going to enjoy the food, thanks to the variety, taste and quality.

The Desserts

My favorite section in any buffet but surprisingly, the main course left very little space for me to do justice to this mouth watering counter. The english truffle was amazing and the peach tart was fabulous and for peach lovers, this one is for you. Loved the fresh peaches on the top.The choco eclair was another stupendous dessert and so was the caramel custard. The strawberry pannacotta was passable and I had a pretty tough time finishing the large portion of lemon cheesecake for I had overeaten already. However, I didn’t want to miss out on the assorted gelato request, and had a wonderful little scoop of mango gelato. If you are looking for something different, do not miss the coconut pie!

Service

The service was excellent and all the staff were courteous and never forgot to smile. It has been a while since I have come across such courteous people serving food. This would definitely complement to Burgundys’ success considering the fact that this resto is frequented by expats who stay in Somerset Greenways.

The Price

Now , to the most watched segment of the review – The Burgundys Chennai Buffet Price. The dinner buffet comes at around INR 1078 per head and you also have a lunch buffet for INR 678. The quality and taste of the food, makes it worth the money. However, if you are looking to do real justice to the price, you ought to have a huge apetite!

The Final Word

The Burgundys Dinner Buffet has definitely impressed on the whole right from service to the variety offered. The Main Street @ Residency Towers, was the last buffet where I had found this variety but Burgundys definitely beats it what it has to offer in the main course. On a personal front , I am not a big fan of spending a grand for one dinner, but surprisingly, I have fallen in love with this place and its ambiance. would definitely visit Burgundys again!
